The Russian economy is being diversified, many industries are localized

In general the nominal quantity of investors in Russia has not decreased, but the real number of transactions dropped last year. This is primarily due to the economic situation in Russia, particularly in relation to its perspective, said to a REGNUM correspondent Alexander Lobakov, managing partner of Novus Capital.

“Because of this, there was no certainty that investments in Russian projects would give the expected profitability, which, accordingly, led to a decrease in investments,” explained the expert.

In addition, it can also be associated with a certain structural moment, as in 2018 the political situation in the country was unstable due  to the presidential elections in Russia and the yet another sanctions against major entrepreneurs.

“At the time it became a bad indicator, but now, as they say,“ the dust has settled. ” In addition, the Russian economy is being diversified, many industries are localized. There are new investment opportunities. In particular, interest of investors is consistently high in pharmaceuticals and the manufacture of medical products, ”Lobakov said.

As REGNUM news agency reported, according to a survey of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RUIE) and FleishmanHillard Vanguard, the share of foreign investors who noticed the deterioration of the business climate in Russia has more than doubled - from 22% in 2017 to 50% - in 2018
